Volume six of the recordings of Red Nichols presented in chronological order opens with a version of the "Five" pennies. The dozen artists heard on the extended "Revival Day" read like a Who's Who of coming stars. Nichols at least deserves to be congratulated for having chosen to record with such talented young musicians. Besides the often stunning personnel of these studio bands, the early renditions of familiar standards is another fascinating fact: many of these tunes were later recorded ad infinitum by all kinds of swing bands.
