Description:
The 78s used were transfered and remastered by the renowned collector and sound engineer, John R.T. Davies. Jimmie Noone's Orchestra was at the Ragal in Chicago in March 1930 with the Gary Cooper "all talking" movie, "The Virginian". Vaudeville was out, music was dominated by the film industry, the U.S. was in Depression and Prohibition had 3 years before repeal. Against this background Jimmie Noone kept a small band in regular employment playing theatres, clubs and one nights on Chicago's South Side. In March 1929 they had moved to the Club El Rado from the Apex Club and were still there when the first sides here were recorded. |
