Description:
Dublin –born Professor Peter O’Brien is a Licentiate of the Royal Irish Academy of Music where he won the coveted Gold Medal for composition and many classical piano competitions. While studying French in Paris at age 17, he first heard the music of Fats Waller and thus began a lifelong love of that music. Peter is now recognized as one of Europe’s finest exponents of the Harlem Stride style of piano, and has shared billing and performed with such jazz stars as Stephane Grapelli, Bud Freeman, Wild Bill Davison, Kenny Davern, Warren Vache and Harry Allen. He has played many times with Ralph Sutton, who became a good friend, and in June 2001 recorded a live, two piano CD with him in Dublin – which may have been Ralph’s last two piano recording. |
