ANITA O'DAY / IRENE KRAL

THERE'S ONLY ONE... / WONDERFUL LIFE

Description:
This set 2 albums on one CD revives a pair of obscure albums by two singers who are anything but forgotten. Both come from Chicago. Both had cool voices and white hot defiance of anyone who told them what to do. Neither sounded like anyone but her imitators. And the similarities end there. When Anita made "There's Only One..." in 1978, her glory years as a swing a bop era star were long behind her. But on this album, she sounds as good as she did on her classic albums for Verve in the '50s and early '60s, and she's joined by drummer John Poole's trio featuring Mary Harris and Monty Budwig. Irene's "Wonderful Life," originally released in 1965, features Oliver Mitchell, Richard Leith, Joe Burnett, Russ Freeman, Alfred Dolory, Gene Cipriano and others.
