2 CD set. The long unavailable complete Birdland set pairing Bird with Fats Navarro and Bud Powell. Bird, Fats and Bud are splendid on all these long and relaxed performances. As a bonus, we have added another complete set taped at Birdland a few months earlier, as well as the only existing tune from a radio broadcast presenting Bird and Bud playing "Dance of the Infidels". Although they were two of the greatest bebop luminaries, Bird and Fats didn't record together often. This is their last recorded collaboration and the best exponent of the climax they surely achieved many times at different clubs. On many previous issues, this music appeared off speed about a half step sharp and with some readings of "52nd Street Theme" missing. Here you have the complete set in the correct pitch. Many of the Parker buffs who made amateur recordings usually recorded only Bird's solos, but Rose had the habit of taping complete performances. Thus, we are fortune here to possess long and rewarding solos by Bird, Fats and Powell playing on some tunes they rarely played in the presence of recording equipment. As a bonus, we offer another complete set by Bird at Birdland, recorded on February 14, 1950. It was recorded by fellow musicians Jimmy Knepper and Don Lanphere and has Bird playing with Red Rodney, J.J. Johnson, Al Haig, Tommy Potter and Roy Haynes. Knepper and Lanphere took their tape recorder to the club and taped four complete sets, but following the lead of Dean Benedetti, they only taped most of the opening melodies, all of Parker's solos, the exchanges of fours between the horns and the drums, and most of the closing melodies. Our last bonus is the only known existing track from a radio broadcast from Birdland, which also presents Bird with Bud Powell.
