This edition compiles two outstanding sessions under the leadership of tenor saxophonist Paul Quinichette paying homage to Count Basie for the first time ever on one CD. Both of the albums For Basie and Basie Reunion feature well known figures who at the time the LPs were recorded in 1957 and 1958 had been members of different incarnations of the Count Basie orchestra. The rhythm section as, in fact, identical to that of the Basie band during the thirties, with Walter Page on bass, Freddie Green on guitar and Jo Jones on drums, joined by Nat Pierce playing "a la Basie". |
