JAN SAVITT

QUAKER CITY

Description:
2 CD set. The "Top Hatters" had some distinguishing trademarks: the shuffle style, precision playing and versatility. The shuffle is evident in many of the songs in this collection as the piano and drums take off double time and the rich brass and woodwind sections join to provide a contrast that is uniquely Savitt. With so much going in every arrangement, only well practiced, thoroughly disciplined musicians could keep up. Although all of the selections are dance tempo, you'll hear mellow brass, bluesy muted trumpets, torch style vocals and even a novelty tune. The Savitt theme, "Quaker City Jazz", is like a resume of the group's versatility and skill.
