CHARLIE SHAVERS

SHAVERS SHIVERS

Description:
A superb set of 17 unreleased tracks by an overlooked giant of jazz and swing! For the most part, Charlie Shavers was content to stay in the shadows of big band leaders like Tommy Dorsey, his long term employer. But when Shavers stepped into the limelight it was magical. As a trumpet player, singer and songwriter, Shavers produced some of the most forward leaning material of the 1940s, prefiguring bop, rhythm and blues, even rock and roll. This disc includes 17 tracks Shavers cut for both the Standard and World transcription libraries from 1944 through the early 1950s, documenting this versatile performer in his various stylistic moods. Exclusive photos and liner notes, too. Material from Standard and World transcriptions. The seven 1944 selections are from a very obscure session which offers the earliest of Charlie Shavers' dates as a leader.
