ARTIE SHAW

AND HIS ORCHESTRA

THE RADIO YEARS, VOLUME 1

Description:
These two radio broadcasts feature the Artie Shaw Orchestra at the Hotel Lincoln in a period when the band was becoming more popular week by week. The recording quality is excellent on this 1994 CD, and Shaw's band which features the clarinetist, tenors Georgie Auld and Tony Pastor, and occasional vocals by Pastor and Helen Forrest is in fine form. The music is somewhat predictable most of the selections were recorded commercially during the period with no real revelations, so this CD is mostly recommended to Artie Shaw completists and his greatest fans. Among the hotter selections are "Sobbin' Blues," "The Old Stamping Ground" and two versions of "Copenhagen." Recorded November 25 and December 30
