This excellent LP finds the George Shearing Quintet joined on six of the dozen selections by singer Dakota Staton. Staton, who had recorded her hit "The Late Late Show" just a few months earlier, was on her way to fame. Strangely enough, the version of "The Late Late Show" on this album is an instrumental. Staton sounds particularly fine on "The Thrill Is Gone" and "Confessin' the Blues," while the Shearing features include "Senor Blues" and Ray Bryant's "Pawn Ticket." On CD for the first time. |
