SHEL SILVERSTEIN

AND THE RED ONIONS

HAIRY JAZZ

Description:
Shel Silverstein is now best known for his children's books, he first gained notoriety as a cartoonist for Playboy in the late '50s and soon after that was cutting records that spanned the pop spectrum from jazz to folk to country, in addition to penning hits for the likes of Johnny Cash, Bobby Bare, Loretta Lynn, and Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show. This is Silverstein's very first LP, originally released in 1959. Hairy Jazz is a bit of an anomaly in the Silverstein catalog in that it only contains two original songs, the rest of the album being his own unique take on a selection of jazz standards. The debut release from one of America's true originals, on CD for the first time.
