JIMMY SMITH
STRAIGHT LIFE | |
Description:
Sometimes the vaults of Blue Note are like Ali Baba's cave. The treasures on this disc have been sitting in the vaults since they were recorded in 1961 and are released here for the first time. Smith's trio became one of the most popular groups in jazz in the late 50s/early 60s with Smith virtually inventing the modern organ sound. With guitarist Quentin Warren and drummer Donald Bailey, Smith burns through a series of standards and and originals in a session which was recorded just before Smith exploded as a national star on the pop and R&B charts. |
