THE REMARKABLE ART OF TATUM & CHITTISON- TEA FOR TWO | |
Description:
The first half of Tea For Two has plenty of contrasts, tempo breaks and key changes and also some skillfully worked out unison lines by Tatum and Grimes. Everything on the first half of this record bears repeat listening for there is too much music being played to describe in writing. Listen, learn, enjoy and wonder. We'll not hear its like again. The second half of Tea For Two is Herman Chittison, who never became the equal of Art Tatum or Teddy Wilson or Earl Hines, nor possessed their inimitable creative gifts, he was nonetheless a marvelous musician and a superb pianist. The listener will find here, a finished artist working at the top of his craft playing classics and standards with great elan at all tempos and with a fine beat and technique. He is ably supported by guitarist Shirley and bassist Cedric Wallace. Together they make marvelous music. |
