Listening to this CD, you will hear some of the most beautiful and tender sounds ever coaxed from a baritone or a soprano saxophone. Having listened to this recital it's much more than just another 'busking' session from beginning to end, my first thought was that it's the greatest vocal album I ever heard. The human voice is absent throughout, if we leave aside the humming into the mouthpiece which gives Joe's baritone its characteristic hoarseness in moments of intensity. But the music sings gloriously in every mood and tempo. |
