Description:
Until the mid Fifties, Clark Terry who was to become a valued regular on the jazz record scene had been hidden in the trumpet sections of major orchestras Ellington, Basie, Hampton. He began his climb to prominence with an appearance on Thelonious Monk's notable Brilliant Corners LP, soon followed by a series of his own Riverside albums, of which this was the first the title refers to the one nighters of his big band past. The contents here are undiluted hard bop: five Terry originals, two standards, one by Charlie Parker. The supporting cast is totally first class for this era; and it's worth noting that two mainstays of the Riverside team of recording artists, Johnny Griffin and Wynton Kelly, were both appearing on the label for the first time.
