Description:
Greece's leading international jazz artist Dimitrios Vassilakis brought together an all star jazz ensemble including Marc Johnson, Ralph Peterson, David Liebman, Andy Sheppard, Jamey Haddad and Bulgaria's Theodosii Spassov for this album which draws on the fascinating Greek mythology of Minos, evoking the ancient ideals of philosophy: clarity of thought, conversation, the quest for freedom and symmetry. It also pulls from the more recent history of Greece and the Balkans: ritual, intensity and regional rhythms and sounds. Recorded in New York and London and produced by David Leibman, this was brought to life at N.Y.'s Birdland in 2001 in a fabulous evening of post modern existentialist Balkan inspired jazz. |
