MARLENE VER PLANCK

ONCE THERE WAS A MOON

Description:
Marlene VerPlanck sings standards, songs both old and only time will tell new. She performs them with her well known perfect intonation, diction, phrasing, and time. She is a wonder and deserves all honors. The expert arrangements are as always by Billy VerPlanck, who is also the composer of two of the more recent songs, other writers of same including Cy Coleman, Peggy Lee, Charles DeForest, and Bob Wells. These are not exactly kids, but lurking among them are certain even older fellows named Berlin, Rodgers, Porter, Kern, and even the late saxophonist composer Benny Carter. The sparkle of their material has been renewed by Mr. VerPlanck and by the firm and always appropriate piano playing of Ted Firth. But the focus is on Marlene VerPlanck and her wondrous ways with songs. The studio is named Bennett, as in Tony.
