NEW GIRL IN TOWN

Description:
New Girl In Town, overall was a successful show, fairing well with both critics and audiences. It ran over a year 431 performances, which was over twice as long as the original Annie Christie. It was nominated for a Tony award for Best musical, as was Prud'homme, for best actor; however, both Verdon and Ritter won Tony's as best actress in a musical. If New Girl isn't as well known as it ought to be, it's possibly because of its place in the pantheon of Fosse Verdon collaborations. They did five shows together, and while there were no flops, three were classics and blockbusters Yankees, Charity, and Chicago, while the other two New Girl and Redhead were merely hits. Ann Christie/New Girl In Town is the kind of story that's always relevant, no matter when and where you set it, or whether or not you include songs and dances. The message is explicit, that love is something to be embraced, whether it's dysfunctional or not. The most that we can hope for is to do the best that we can and love the only way we know how.
