Description:
Widely acclaimed among the greatest soloists in gospel history, Clara Ward was also the subject of much criticism from purists with her backing group the Ward Singers, she pushed gospel out of the church and into the nightclubs, infusing the music with a shot of glitz and glamour the likes of which had never before been seen. Decked out in colorful gowns, towering wigs and dazzling jewelry, the Wards sang only the biggest pop gospel hits, flamboyantly delivered for maximum commercial appeal; while many observers decried their clownish onstage behavior as demeaning not only to the music but also to their African American heritage, at their creative peak the group was a true phenomenon. This 24 track CD features music from 1949 52. |
How I Got Over
I Don't Know Why
Wasn't It A Pity How They Punished My Lord
The Old Rugged Cross
I Feel The Holy Spirit
Jesus Is Real To Me
I Know What He's Done For Me
Each Day
Hark The Voice
Draw Me Nearer
When The Gates Swing Open
When He Spoke
The Old Landmark
Throw Out The Lifeline
Come In The Room
I'm Sealed
Take Your Burdens To The Lord
God Moves In Mysterious Way
I Heard The Voice Of Jesus
It's Worth It
He Delivered Me
You Must Have Good Religion
Guide Me O Thou Great Jehova
Just A LIttle While |
