DINAH WASHINGTON

QUEEN

Description:
Dinah Washington liked to say, " I sing everything, anything at all. I sing blues, pops, and if I have to I can go to church." It was no idle boast. In her short, intense career barely twenty years Dinah found critical and commercial sucess with everything she touched. She made any song she sang her own. The tart timbre of her voice accentuated a singular feel for the lyric and the phrase. With her precise diction and perfect pitch, she created in the words of one critic "an electric vitality." Every part of Dinah found its way into her music, and in her twenty years of recording, she made all kinds of music with small combos and big bands, with horns and with strings, with backup vocals and without. This CD compiles a sampling of them all, form Dinah's years with Mercury between 1946 1961. It is a companion to Queen: The Life And Music Of Dinah Washington.
