2 CD set. Ben Webster Tenor Saxophone. Harry Edison Trumpet. This CD comprises all of the sextet recordings made by Ben Webster and Harry Edison in the studio. The current edition includes two complete LPs, "Sweets" and "Gee, Baby, Ain't I Good To You", originally issued under Edison's name, as well as all of the tunes included on two more obscure sessions. One of them, a Woody Herman LP titled "Songs for Hip Lovers", also included material cut at a different session without Ben or Sweets this release, however, only contains the sessions featuring the two hornmen. Although the addion of Herman who only sings here makes the group a septet, the spirit of the session clearly fits this collection and the personnel is pretty much the same as on the "Sweets" LP. The last item on this set originally appeared on an album called "Some Of My Favorites" which included vocals by Matt Dennis backed by a combo plus instrumentals by a Red Norvo Sextet with Webster and Edison. All of the tracks by the Norvo group are included on this release.
