LEE WILEY

WHAT IS LOVE?

Description:
Vocally strong and clear, well before teaming with Bing Crosby, she was in demand on radio and as a recording vocalist in dance music sessions with The Dorseys, Glen Gray & The Casa Loma and composer, violinist and director Victor Young. With the last named her records included the symphonic arrangements of Cole Porter, and they were later to become regular partners in similarly commercial, dance oriented fare on radio. However, even at this early stage jazz and blues overtones already distinctive elements in Wiley's armoury, as Carless Love amply illustrates. Her pioneering of the single composer song album, aided by her distinctive tone and commitment to lyrics, by the decade's end had earned Wiley a special niche among jazz and supper club fraternities.
