This CD is another typically exciting, virtuosic and often witty outing from the great pianist Jessica Williams. Joined by bassist Jeff Johnston and drummer Dick Berk, Williams splits the program between originals including "Blues for Mandela" and "Geronimo Blues" and standards; a humorous version of "Beautiful Girl of My Dreams" is a highlight. Although Jessica Williams is at her most adventurous when playing unaccompanied solos rather than with a trio, this is a particularly strong release and a good introduction to her talents. |
