In 1922 the carefree spirit of the jazz age was really getting underway, reflected in music of happy boisterousness and summed up by the 24 tracks carefully chosen for Hits Of ’22. Here are the original hits of the year performed by the original artists. Dance band records were the biggest sellers, still dominated by the commanding figure of Paul Whiteman four of his “No.1s” are included: Do It Again!, Hot Lips, I’ll Build A Stairway to Paradise and Three O’Clock In The Morning, plus two other numbers by The Virginians, a Whiteman jazz outfit, but also represented here by Isham Jones On The Alamo and The World Is Waiting For The Sunrise, Ted Lewis Georgette and others. The foremost solo recording artist was again the dynamic Al Jolson, who had the year’s biggest hit with April Showers.
