Here is the 28th! issue in Living Era's Hits Of series – so far 700 original hits by the original artists from Hits Of '30 to Hits Of '53 – plus Hits Of '20, '21 and '22. Dreamy Melody, Art Landry's No.1 hit, provides the appropriate title for Hits Of '23, the fourth release of ten that will make up The Roaring Twenties. In 1923 the carefree spirit of the jazz age was well underway, reflected in music of happy boisterousness and summed up by the 25 tracks carefully chosen for Hits Of '23. Here are the original hits of the year performed by the original artists. Dance band records were the biggest sellers, still dominated by the commanding figure of Paul Whiteman five of his "No.1s" are included, but also represented here by Isham Jones and several others. The foremost solo recording artist was again the dynamic Al Jolson, while other top stars were Marion Harris, Henry Burr, Billy Murray and Eddie Cantor. And two of jazz' all time greats are included in Bessie Smith and King Oliver.
