JIMMY YOUNG

I'LL SING TO YOU

Description:
Leslie Young, otherwise Sir Jimmy Young b.1923, is of course most famous for 'the JY Prog' and as a doyen of broadcasters for more than 30 years. Only those of us well into our late 50s or beyond are likely to remember his days as a heart throb crooner. Yet he was indeed once one of Britain's greatest popular singers and he has an enviable chart history to prove it. I'll Sing To You is exactly what Jimmy Young does on this Living Era release. Here are 28 of the best from the time when he was arguably Britain's no.1 male singer. His earliest success was the appropriately named Nat King Cole cover Too Young. He also had success duetting with Petula Clark on Broken Heart, and with standards such as Because Of You. Moving to Decca he broke into the charts with Faith Can Move Mountains before really hitting the bigtime and becoming the very first British artist to make No.1 with successive issues. These were The Man From Laramie and, before that, the immortal Unchained Melody. But Jimmy made many more fine recordings too, such as the Top Ten hit Eternally, and others such as Someone On Your Mind, Little Things Mean A Lot, You Belong To Me, Kiss Of Fire and It's All In The Game.
